The Board of Trustees is the body that oversees the running of Wade Deacon Trust, they meet at least twice each term and are supported in its work by the Company Secretary. The trustees are responsible for the same three core governance functions performed by the governing body in a maintained school: setting the direction, holding the principal/headteacher to account and ensuring financial probity. As charity trustees, they must also ensure that they are complying with charity law requirements.
Ian Hann, Trustee, Chairman of the Board, National Leader of Governance
Ian has had an extensive professional career at Board level in both the public and private sectors. The business and analytical skills he has gained in his working life are being fully utilised in order to plan and deliver continued improvements across the Trust. Having had over twenty years’ experience as a governor, Ian is committed to supporting and positively challenging all members of the school community in order to fulfil their potential. He has recently gained the position of National Leader of Governance and is working with governing bodies on strategies to support and challenge their schools.
As Chair of the MAT Board, Ian leads on strategic developments to continue to drive overall school improvement through the promotion and delivery of a clear MAT vision and ethos. His aim is for every member of the MAT to deliver consistently outstanding education for its students and to play a key role within the local community.
Colin Mcleod, Trustee, Vice Chairman of the Trust Board
Colin has thirty-nine years teaching experience in the secondary sector and recently retired from his role as Vice-Principal in an Academy. As well as gaining the National Professional Qualification for Headship he has delivered middle and senior leadership training.
He was also a Governor for twenty-four years and helped found the Halton Association of Governors where he served as treasurer. He was acknowledged by the Local Authority with an award for his contribution to school governance.
As Vice-Chair, Colin uses his expertise in school improvement to ensure all schools in the MAT deliver best value both educationally and economically.
Linda has several years’ experience as a school governor at Wade Deacon for many years and is extremely proud of all the accomplishments and awards the school has received during this time. Linda has used this experience to support other schools in the Trust.
Linda has expertise as the SEND Link Governor, and her interest lies in this area due to her prior experience of working with SEND children. Linda has undertaken training in a number of key Governance areas and has specialised in support staff recruitment on behalf of Governing Bodies. Linda is now looking forward to sharing all the future success of the Academy.
John has been both Chair of the Schools Forum for the Local Authority and also Chair of Governors at three schools. He is active in the promotion and delivery of training for Governors. As a Trustee of the MAT, John combines his awareness of policies and procedures along with his strategic vision to ensure that there is an overall consistency of ethos and values within each MAT school.
Nick has thirty-nine years teaching experience. Prior to his retirement, he was Head of School. As well as gaining the National Professional Qualification for Headship, Nick currently works for the National College of Teaching and Leadership as a facilitator for their accredited courses. He has also worked for the British Council, delivering training both nationally and internationally. As a Trustee of the MAT, Nick is committed to providing opportunities for members of staff to enhance their knowledge and skills for the benefit of all members of the school community.
Mike taught PE and Mathematics in a secondary school before taking on the role of Head of Education and Welfare at Everton Football Club. In this role, Mike played a major part in the development of young players, not only helping them to develop their footballing skills but also ensuring they gained academic qualifications and life skills. As a Trustee of the MAT, Mike is determined to use the skills and knowledge he has gained to ensure that every student in the MAT has the opportunity to achieve a full measure of success.
